PIANO PROJECT

Piano Project is a Melbourne charity that supports projects that improve access to music education. We began with piano lessons for children who have come to Australia as refugees and we continue to focus on this project. In recent times, we have expanded our range to also include a broader range of projects that bring music education to children and young adults who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

We operate using a grant process. Information about the grants currently available and how to apply is here. Information about projects previously and currently funded by Piano Project is here.

One of the projects we support is the Pizzicato Effect. Started in 2009 by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Pizzicato Effect is a community program providing free string instrumental and musicianship tuition to children in the City of Hume. In 2023, the program became an incorporated organsiation, with a plan to continue as an independent entity. Piano Project is delighted to be supporting them in their new chapter, we accept donations on their behalf and assist with administrative support for the program, allowing Pizzicato Effect Incorporated to concentrate on delivering its wonderful musical program.

Piano Project welcomes donations. We have gift recipient status from the Australian Tax Office and all donations over $2 are tax deductible. If you would like to contribute, you can make a donation here.

TEMPO RUBATO

From the beginning, Piano Project has presented classical music recitals as a way to fund projects. When we first started, these recitals took place in roving locations around Melbourne. In 2019, our recitals evolved in to a permanent enterprise, Tempo Rubato, a live music venue and bar in Brunswick.  All of the profits from Tempo Rubato go to Piano Project.
